Public Photography & Copyright Policy

Timberlane Entertainment Company LLC · Publishing policy

Our publications document community, music, arts, family, and public events. This policy applies to editorial material published by Timberlane Entertainment Company LLC and its affiliated publications, including work supplied by volunteer reporters, freelance photographers, and writers. Each publication may add more specific rules.

Photographs at events

We consider the place, event rules, access granted, subject matter, and the people shown before recording or publishing. A public park or publicly accessible event may permit ordinary observation and photography, but that does not give anyone unlimited access to restricted areas, private conversations, or private activities. We follow reasonable access and safety directions from event organizers and property managers.

Parents and guests may photograph for personal use subject to an event’s rules. Publishing, advertising, and reuse by another organization raise different questions. We ask people to be courteous: do not obstruct an event, approach children for interviews or close portraits without an appropriate adult, or identify a child unnecessarily. When an organizer identifies a specific restriction or concern, our editor reviews it promptly.

Children and privacy

We use particular care with images of children, sensitive situations, and identifiable personal details. We prefer wide event scenes or images with clear permission when a child is the focus. We may crop, obscure, replace, or remove an image after editorial review. A photograph taken independently by a visitor does not automatically become a school education record merely because students appear in it; schools have separate duties for records they maintain. That distinction is not a substitute for care or applicable event rules.

Editorial use, promotions, and audio

News and documentary coverage differs from using someone’s likeness to promote a product, sponsor, or service. We assess promotional or advertising use separately and seek permissions where appropriate. Recording a conversation or other audio raises separate privacy and consent questions; an invitation to photograph does not itself authorize recording a private conversation.

Who owns the photographs?

Photographers and other creators ordinarily own their original work unless an applicable written agreement or law provides otherwise. Sending us a photograph does not transfer copyright. Contributors must have the right to submit their material, tell us about any restrictions, and provide accurate credits and context. We record the scope of permission for each use, including use across our own publications and social platforms. We do not assume a third-party platform license gives us permission to copy a photograph, and we do not authorize others to repost our material merely because it appears here.

Unless an item states another license, text, photographs, artwork, video, and audio on our publications are protected by their respective rights holders. Please request permission before reproducing or adapting them, except as law or an applicable license allows. Credit alone does not replace permission.

Corrections, concerns, and permissions

Tell us which article and image you mean, the concern or requested correction, and how we can reply. We review requests concerning accuracy, privacy, a child’s image, attribution, copyright, or reuse. We may ask for enough information to verify a rights claim. A request does not by itself determine the legal status of a photograph, but we will review it in good faith.
